DUX dual-way pressure relief vent
The DUX is part of Amventco's range of pressure relief vents. This dual-way pressure relief vent is engineered to provide exceptional performance in managing internal pressures during live gas discharge events for a range of gas fire suppression systems. This pressure relief vent ensures safety and structural integrity in critical environments.
Specifically designed for use with halocarbon gases like FM-200 and Novec, the DUX is ideal for applications requiring reliable pressure venting to prevent negative pressure and over-pressurization.
What sets the DUX apart is its innovative double-action design, featuring top-weighted, offset pivoted aerofoil-style vent blades. These interlocking individual blades offer exceptional efficiency with unmatched reaction times and superior fire protection. The robust design ensures durability and optimal performance, even in challenging conditions. The two-pivot mechanism delivers precise control over internal pressures, preventing structural damage to the external wall and surrounding areas.
The DUX has been rigorously tested using the 2008 AFP/BRE live gas discharge protocols and is the only pressure vent certified to the BRE standard for free vent area (FVA). Its low leakage rate and certified performance make it a trusted choice for maintaining safety in environments utilizing gaseous fire suppression systems with gases like FM-200 and Novec. With a static fan test, the vent blades opened fully at positive pressure of 120-160Pa.
Designed to excel in high-risk scenarios, the DUX dual-way pressure relief vent is a benchmark in pressure venting solutions in industrial applications, providing peace of mind through robust performance and unparalleled efficiency.
Certifications & testing
Our DUX dual-way pressure relief vent proves market-leading performance. Below is a summary of the key certifications and tests this unique pressure vent has undergone. Detailed certificates and testing results are available upon request.
- 4-hour fire resistance rated by Exova Warrington Fire to BS EN 133-1-2012 (Report No. 359639).
- Live discharge test by BRE, UK (Report No. 122084).
- Blast and explosion tested with AFP's blast simulator.
Type of gases
The DUX can be used with gaseous fire suppression systems using any chemical or synthetic gas. Synthetic gases are non-reactive and leave no residue, making them ideal for protecting sensitive equipment and critical spaces. Synthetic gaseous agents include:
- FM-200 (HFC-227ea)
- NOVEC 1230 (FK-5-1-12)
- Halon 1301 (Bromotrifluoromethane)
- Halon 1211 (Bromochlorodifluoromethane)
- FE-36 (HFC-236fa)
- FE-13 (HFC-23)
Benefits of certification
Testing and certification are crucial to ensure that products like the DUX dual flow vent meet strict safety and performance standards. In practical applications, certified vents such as the DUX are proven to reliably operate in challenging scenarios, including gas discharges, arc flash events, and fires, reducing risks to both personnel and property.
Certification to industry standards ensures compatibility with gas calculation software models, enabling precise performance predictions and preventing hazardous positive and negative pressure during live events.
Fire testing verifies that the DUX vent acts as an effective fire barrier when installed in approved wall systems (4 hours fire resistance), offering essential protection in high-risk environments. Additionally, robust blast resistance testing confirms its ability to withstand extreme pressures, avoiding structural damage and maintaining enclosure integrity and safety.
Integrity room tests
The Amventco pressure relief vent product range does not require calibration from a pressure integrity test. Our range is fully certified to the BRE Live Discharge test of 2008. For any building application, the unit's size should be chosen based on the Free Vent Area (FVA) specified from the gas supplier's calculations. Or alternatively, an integrity test report.
Unit selection
The DUX vent is a standard stock model, available in a number of standard sizes for installation in both internal and external walls.

The maximum room pressure is controlled by the vents opening to allow air to escape, then closing when discharge is complete. The differential pressure will determine the flow direction. The vent blades will either open for a positive pressure environment or a negative pressure environment.
Add-ons
- EXP - The expander box weather louvre offers superior wind and weather protection for external walls, without restricting the internal vents Free Vent Area (FVA).
- Wall liner extension sleeves - For internal wall depths that exceed 15" thickness.
- Z-frame - For mounting the DUX in narrow walls, doors, and cladding.
